Snowballing debt payments helps eliminate bills faster

We have been working on the debt reduction for awhile now. Snowballing the debt payments helps tremendously. I was uneasy that the upcoming wedding would cause us to go backwards and in some ways that has been the case.

However; the damage hasn't been as bad as I had feared. Snowballing the debt payments helps by giving us breathing space. It has given us more freedom to spend a few dollars here and there without panicking at the cost.

Our struggle to get things paid off is working! When we began this journey our bills, medicals and monthly expenses spilled over from paycheck to paycheck. There was no room to buy anything for the wedding, unexpected expenses or breathing room. It was a very, very unpleasant way to live.

Every month we create and follow a spending plan and each quarter we evaluate our progress. The self-accountability keeps us on track even though it's a real pain. It was with nervous dread when I sat down with Hubby last week.

It turns out that our medicals are almost completely resolved! It's proof that snowballing the debt payments is working. The extra breathing space that we might have noticed has been consumed by wedding expenses. It wasn't until we sat down for the evaluation that we realized our progress.

We are still feeling the wedding crunch but now I feel better. It doesn't give me a license to overspend on the event but it alleviates the guilt. Snowballing debt payments has released my guilt so that I can enjoy the wedding. That alone makes the budgeting worthwhile.
